Best Salesforce and Microsoft Teams integrations for financial services (2026)

A Salesforce and Microsoft Teams integration at a regulated firm is evaluated on three things before features: where the Salesforce data goes, whether every write leaves an audit trail, and whether the licensing model creates exposure as usage grows. This post compares the five options that come up in every evaluation, using the criteria a compliance or IT lead at a bank, wealth manager, or insurer would apply.

What financial services firms need from a Teams and Salesforce integration

Use these eight criteria. They are the rows in the comparison table further down.

  1. Data path. Does Salesforce data stay in Salesforce and Microsoft 365, or is it copied to the vendor's database? A second copy is a second system to govern.
  2. Audit trail. Is every record change made from Teams written by an identifiable user, with Salesforce field history intact?
  3. Recordkeeping support. Can the integration support the workflows your firm uses to meet FINRA Rule 4511 and SEC Rule 17a-4, such as capturing client communications against the client record? The integration itself is not the archive; your books-and-records system is.
  4. Financial Services Cloud. Does it work with FSC objects such as Financial Account, Household, and Interaction Summary, or only with standard Sales Cloud objects?
  5. Salesforce Government Cloud. Needed by some insurers and public-sector adjacent firms.
  6. SOC 2. Has the vendor completed a SOC 2 Type II, and what is in scope?
  7. Admin ownership. Can a Salesforce admin build and change it without Apex, Block Kit, or a Power Platform developer?
  8. Metering. Is usage charged per message, per run, or per credit? Metered models create budget exposure that compliance teams dislike as much as finance teams do.

1. Salesforce for Microsoft Teams (the native app)

What it is: the free app from Salesforce that lets users mention and preview records in Teams and pin a record to a channel.

Where it fits in financial services: firms that only need advisors to see and hand-edit a client record while chatting, with no automation.

Where it falls short: it has no automation. It does not create channels, post updates on record changes, or prompt an advisor for missing information; a user can inline-edit a record they have pinned or mentioned, and that is the extent of write-back. It supports standard and custom objects that have an activity timeline, so test the Financial Services Cloud objects you rely on before rollout. Record details shown on cards are stored in your Microsoft 365 Teams storage, which your data-governance review should note. Every user needs a Salesforce license, which rules out compliance or operations staff who work outside Salesforce.

2. Microsoft Copilot for Sales

What it is: Microsoft's paid add-on that surfaces CRM data in Outlook and Teams and offers meeting summaries with CRM context.

Where it fits in financial services: firms standardized on Microsoft 365 that want CRM context in email and meetings for Sales Cloud users.

Where it falls short: it is a pull model. The rep asks, Copilot answers. There is no push of a compliance checklist or a required-field prompt to the advisor. Real-time meeting tips cover CRM context and brand or competitor info only. Onboarding needs an external participant on the invite, transcription running, and a Copilot license per user. It does not manage Teams channels tied to records.

3. MuleSoft

What it is: Salesforce's integration platform. Teams connectivity is built as an API integration by a developer, using MuleSoft's Salesforce and Microsoft Graph connectors.

Where it fits in financial services: large institutions that already run MuleSoft for core banking or policy admin integrations and have a team to build and maintain a Teams integration alongside them.

Where it falls short: it is a build, not a product. Channel management, prompts to users, and write-back from Teams are all custom code and custom UI. The cost comes from both sides: MuleSoft licensing is priced and scoped for an enterprise integration team, and on top of it sits a development project with ongoing maintenance. For a Teams integration alone, that is hard to justify unless MuleSoft is already paid for and staffed.

4. iPaaS: Zapier and Workato

What it is: general-purpose automation platforms with Salesforce and Teams connectors.

Where it fits in financial services: small teams that need a few one-way notifications and accept that data passes through a third-party runtime.

Where it falls short: every flow runs through the vendor's infrastructure, which is a data-path question for a regulated firm. Runs are metered per task. Write-back from Teams requires building forms and a return flow. Neither product has a concept of a channel tied to a Salesforce record.

5. Centro

What it is: a Salesforce-native integration for Microsoft Teams. Automation is built in Salesforce Flow. The Teams app reads and writes through the Salesforce API and does not keep a separate copy of your records.

Where it fits in financial services: wealth managers, banks, and insurers that need client or deal channels created from records, two-way updates, and a push model that prompts the advisor rather than waiting to be asked.

Where it falls short: it is a paid subscription, and it assumes a Salesforce admin who is comfortable in Flow.

What that looks like in practice

One of the largest independent RIAs runs Financial Services Cloud in Teams with Centro. A household or opportunity record creates its own channel with the right advisors and operations staff. Before a client call ends, CentroBot checks the required items on the firm's call checklist against what has been captured and nudges the advisor on anything uncovered. The advisor updates the record from Teams by prompt, and the update lands in Salesforce under their own user with field history intact.

On compliance

Centro supports customer compliance workflows for FINRA 4511 and SEC 17a-4. It is not an archive and does not claim to be one. SOC 2 Type II covers the core integration; CentroBot runs on the same architecture and is outside the current SOC 2 scope. Salesforce Government Cloud is supported. Details and the subprocessor list are at /security.

For a regulated firm, the decision usually comes down to the data path and who owns the integration after go-live. If record previews and hand edits in chat are enough, the native app covers it. If you need channels tied to client records, prompts to advisors, and two-way updates that stay inside Salesforce and Microsoft 365, that is what Centro is built for. FAQ

Is there a FINRA-compliant Salesforce and Teams integration?

No integration is FINRA-compliant on its own. Compliance belongs to the firm and its books-and-records system. What you can require is an integration that supports your compliance workflows: identifiable users on every write, Salesforce field history intact, and no second copy of client data. Centro is built to those requirements.

Does the native Salesforce Teams app work with Financial Services Cloud?

It supports standard and custom objects that have an activity timeline, which covers many FSC objects, but it cannot create channels or push updates for any of them. Test your FSC objects before rollout. Centro works with any object, standard or custom, and drives automation from all of them.

Where does my Salesforce data go when I connect it to Teams?

It depends on the integration. Centro reads and writes through the Salesforce API and does not store your records. iPaaS tools pass data through their own runtime. Ask any vendor for their data flow diagram and subprocessor list.

Can advisors update Salesforce from Teams without a Salesforce license?

With Centro, non-licensed teammates can receive updates and respond to prompts through the automation user. Advisors who edit records need a Salesforce license.

What is the compliance nudge?

A CentroBot check that runs near the end of a client call, compares the required items on your call checklist against what has been captured, and prompts the advisor on anything missing before the call ends.
